Hsmukler MAKES YOU WANT TO FIND YOUR OWN ROOTS
An "intelligent" Russian friend of mine recently wrote me that "the Ukrainians are committing genocide!!!" This reminded me of a visit I made to the Turkish Military Museum in Istanbul where I found a room devoted to the genocide committed BY the Armenians AGAINST the Turks. In an age of so much fake news, it is all the more necessary that a book like "A House in the Homeland" is now available to the public. Dr.Bertram provides the kind of "boots on the ground" that makes historical accuracy possible. Her narrative goes back and forth effortlessly from present to past, from historical analysis to actual historical places, all of which takes place in the stories of current day pilgrims who make their journeys back to their ancestral homes. The stories are poignant and colorfully documented. For anyone who has ever wondered "where did my ancestors come from" House in the Homeland provides a great roadmap for how other people made this journey. After reading the book, I was inspired by the stories to begin the process of making a trip myself to look for my roots in the Old Country.
